Britain was commanded by Harry Rawson, a military naval commander for 7 years between 1902-1907. Harry Rawson had help from further troops commanded by Lloyd Mathews. He was British Naval officer and had constantly fought against the Zanzibar Sultans from 1877. He was in charge of suppressing the slave trade in East Africa. In charge of the Zanzibari Army was Khalid bin Barghash was the Sultan of Zanzibar. When he found out about the treaty Britain in which it stated that he would only ascend to the throne with British permission.
